Tottenham could sign Kalvin Phillips in January

The north London club have been exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder since last summer. Tottenham were linked with a number of options in the last transfer window, with Connor Gallagher being considered a key target. However, they ended up not signing anyone before the deadline.

So, after deciding not to reinforce the cabin last time out, Anj Postkoglu’s side appear to be hoping to do so in the winter window.

However, Gallagher has now become a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea first XI. Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that the Blues will allow him to leave next year.

As a result, Spurs appear to have given up hope of signing Gallagher and are looking for other targets to bolster their midfield, with Phillips now emerging as a key option.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur’s technical director John Langer is a “big fan” of Phillips, so if the Lilywhites end up selling Pierre-Emile Hojber in January Ergo, they might choose to sign him.

However, reports claim that signing Phillips won’t be easy for the north London club, with Newcastle United and Juventus also keen on signing him next year.

Hojberg was heavily linked with a move away from the club last summer, but a deal never materialized before the deadline. It seems he failed to impress new coach Anj Postkoglu as he found it difficult to break into the Australian’s starting eleven.

Therefore, if he were to leave the club in search of regular playing time, Phillips could be a solid signing for the north London club to replace the Dane. The midfielder is dynamic and technical, able to link defense and attack, works extremely hard without possession of the ball and is efficient in his defensive contributions.

However, considering that Phillips has not been able to show his best form at Manchester City since joining Manchester City for 45 million pounds, it is risky for Tottenham to spend a lot of money on him.

Therefore, Tottenham would be better off signing him on loan, and if Phillips can impress Postkoglu, then signing him permanently would be the right decision.
