Reporter reveals how City staff reacted to Klopp’s statement
Klopp’s statement last week not only shocked Liverpool fans but also resonated with the entire football world beyond the club, prompting reactions from several managers including Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel .
Now Jack Gowan has revealed how staff at Manchester City – arguably Klopp’s biggest rivals during his tenure – reacted to the news.
Speaking on the ‘It Started’ podcast, he shared their thoughts on Klopp’s departure:
“I don’t think they’re going to do that (stops smiling), do they? Look, they think they’ve given him away. Someone mentioned it to me last week, you know, that’s fair enough.”
“Guardiola will look at that and think Liverpool need some rebuilding and a new coach to get themselves on their feet, and I think he will look at other teams in the league and probably find that acceptable. ”
“I don’t think Klopp will stay that long without Guardiola and I don’t think Guardiola will stay that long without Klopp.”
Klopp’s Liverpool have been Manchester City’s main rivals for the title over the past few years, with only Arsenal posing a challenge last season.
The fierce competition saw Liverpool miss out on the title twice against Manchester City, each time by just one point.
With Klopp out, it remains uncertain who will replace him and what impact he can have.
The huge gap in quality and depth at other top teams – including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham – could provide Guardiola with a clear path to more trophies.
