Manchester United are considering the possibility of selling Harry Maguire in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Mirror.

Despite being praised for his recovery after being stripped of the club captaincy in pre-season, head coach Erik ten Hag remains committed to improving his team’s defence.

Manchester United are said to be interested in defenders Jean-Claire Todibo, Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt. Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans are likely to leave as their contracts expire in the summer. Additionally, major offers for Maguire and Victor Lindelof are said to be under consideration.

Maguire’s ups and downs at Manchester United

The 30-year-old has struggled to earn a regular starting spot at Old Trafford at the start of the season, finding himself behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro and Benoit in United’s starting order. Martinez and Victor Lindelof. Despite this, the former Manchester United captain has enjoyed a resurgence of form recently, contributing one goal and one assist in 17 games for the Red Devils.

The England player has shown consistency and maintained his reliability by averaging 0.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game in the Premier League. His passing accuracy in his own half is eye-catching, with a pass completion rate of 82.9% in England’s top flight (stats from whoscored).

Will Ten Witches decide to stay at Old Trafford?

Known for his strong tackling and precise timing to win possession back from his own half, Maguire confidently clears the ball when needed and displays adept playmaking ability in the defensive line. Although he made 59 appearances for England, he has shown a weakness for defensive breakdowns in recent seasons.

Nonetheless, his stellar performances under Erik Hag have caught the attention of fans and pundits alike during United’s recent injury-plagued period. That realization may have influenced the former Ajax boss to consider keeping Maguire at Old Trafford, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe may have a different view.

While he has the ability to provide more competition at the back, his role may be diminished if he stays at United. However, given the trajectory of Maguire’s career, an exit may be in the England international’s best interests. Additionally, United are preparing to overhaul their defensive department this year, making Maguire’s departure likely.
