Brighton rejects a second offer from Chelsea

Brighton have rejected a £70m bid from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo, who is the number one target for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who are looking to rebuild their midfield.

According to The Telegraph, the offer comes after weeks of talks between the two clubs, and Chelsea are expected to return with an improved third bid before the Premier League season begins.

It comes as Brighton are still interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwell on a permanent basis, and the 20-year-old could be key to any potential deal for Caicedo.

The report indicated that Chelsea had insisted throughout the summer that Colwell, who played on loan to Brighton last season, was not for sale, but Brighton still hoped to return him to the south coast.

The report stressed that Chelsea’s need for strengthening in the center of the field was made clear by their traveling squad to their pre-season tour of the United States. Of the six midfielders listed, three are teenagers and two have never played for the club.

Midfielders Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek left Chelsea since the beginning of the year.
