The paper claims the England international is unnerved by Ten Hag’s latest decision and believes his time at United is drawing to a close.

The situation has alarmed Premier League rivals, with Tottenham heavily linked with a move for Maguire this summer. They appear to face stiff competition, however, with The Sun claiming Chelsea have joined Tottenham in the running for Maguire, while Newcastle and West Ham have also shown strong interest.

Maguire posted on his social media after being stripped of his captaincy twitter page.

Maguire said: “After discussing with the manager today, he told me he was going to change the captain.”

“He outlined his reasons to me and while I am personally very disappointed, I will continue to give my best every time I put on this shirt.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Manchester United fans for their support during my time with the captain’s armband.

“Since the day I took over the role three-and-a-half years ago, it has been a tremendous honor and one of the proudest moments of my career so far to lead Manchester United.

“I have done everything in my power to help United succeed – on and off the field. I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for giving me this responsibility in the first place and I wish success to whoever takes it on now.”

Chelsea are keen to bring in a midfielder following the exit of several players due to the ongoing summer clean-up, however, Mauricio Pochettino could be looking to sign a defender.

It looks like Maguire has emerged as a shock target for Chelsea but they will face competition from Tottenham as Ainge Postkoglu is also in the market for defensive reinforcements and the ex-League The star of Sturt City is also within his consideration.

according to sunUnited have demanded £50m for Maguire but his asking price could drop to £30m as the Manchester giants look to drop him from their squad this summer.

Maguire’s remaining contract with the Red Devils expires in 2025, but he is clearly not in Ten Hag’s plans, so leaving Old Trafford is the best option for all parties. He has dropped down the table, ahead of Rafael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and left-back Luke Shaw.

Maguire, who joined Old Trafford from Leicester City in 2019, made 31 appearances for United last season.

The England defender is set to leave Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur as he battles over a potential deal as it has been difficult to get regular minutes at United this season.
