Borja Mayoral impresses Manchester United officials
The Spanish ace has enjoyed an impressive season with Getafe, having already scored 16 goals in all competitions. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with Jones revealing in his Givemesport column that United officials have been impressed with the striker while keeping a close eye on Mason Greenwood’s performances.
The Red Devils are in the market for a replacement striker and Mayoral is said to be available for a low fee of around £12m. Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the centre-forward recently, but Jones claims those reports are completely untrue as they have not scouted him since 2019.
Manchester United are currently weighing up their options for a backup forward amid uncertainty over Anthony Martial’s future. The Frenchman will miss the next nine weeks after undergoing groin surgery and is available on a free transfer at the end of his contract at the end of the season.
Manager Erik ten Hag has effectively ruled out any new strikers joining the club this winter due to FFP issues, but the club are likely to invest in the department in the summer. They have been linked with some talented forwards such as Brian Brombie and Joshua Zirkzee, but Mayoral could also be an option.
The Spaniard has settled in Getafe after loan spells at Wolfsburg, Levante and Roma from Real Madrid. He has developed into a quality goalscorer for the La Liga side this season and we would be surprised if they decide to let him go on the cheap during the next transfer window. The price is likely to be higher than the £12m Jones has quoted.
