at the latest tweetWell-known journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Aston Villa have identified Rennes winger Jeremy Doku as a target. Villa are reportedly considering bringing the Belgian talent to Villa Park during this summer’s transfer window.

Doku’s impressive form in Ligue 1

Doku has had a decent season with the French club as he has produced some eye-catching performances on the right wing. The Belgian winger played 35 games for Rennes last season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

The 21-year-old has averaged 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 3.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 and has been consistent in the attacking box. He is accurate even when distributing possession in the opposition half, hitting 86.4% of his pass attempts in the top tier of French football (statistics from whoscored).

His current contract with the French club expires in the summer of 2025. Therefore, if Villa want to recruit Doku before the new season, they will have to make a considerable offer.

What will Doku add to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s squad?

Doku was good at finding space for himself, hitting the target multiple times. He has the vision, is able to create some good chances in the final third and is able to dribble on the flanks for a couple of breaks. The Belgian star is primarily a right-winger but can also play as a left-winger if required. However, he needs to work on improving his productivity.

We expect Doku to add more firepower to Aston Villa’s front line. He could even help Emery’s side challenge for the top half of the Premier League next season.

However, if Villa are able to land Doku in this ongoing transfer window, only time will tell if he can adapt to the physicality and intensity of English football.

Doku, 21, has the potential to be one of the best players at his position. As such, he would be an excellent long-term acquisition for the West Midlands club this summer.
